Up Catalog

Bartolomeo de Oliva (Olives) (fl. 1538-1588) was a member of a family of chart makers in Mallorca, and later in Messina and Marseilles. He drew this manuscript map on parchment n Mallorca in 1562. The map is preserved in the Vatican Library. The stamp was issued in 1935 to call attention to a proposed expedition celebrating the 4th centenary of Francisco Pizarro's Amazon expedition. The proposed expedition by Iglesias never took place because of a civil war in Spain.
