In 1971 Malawi issued a
set of 8 stamps showing two Dürer woodcuts. Only two stamps are shown because
they are repeated on the other 6 stamps.
Christ on the Cross
text on the stamps indicates that the woodcut is a part of the
Small Passion, it is, in fact, a separate woodcut done in 1510 of
Christ on the Cross with the Virgin and St. John. The copy in
the British Museum in London heads a sheet with a poem, also by Düreri
in two columns, printed by Hötzel at Nuremberg.
This woodcut is No.
29 from the Small Passion, done between 1509 and 1511.
