In the spring and fall in Italy as well as
elsewhere animals are moved between mountain pastures and the plaines.
In 2004 Italy issued a souvenir sheet showing one of the three main
tratturi or "sheep paths" between L’Aquila and Foggia used by the
sheep migrations. The Trutturo Magno is shown on an
unidentified older map, with a panoramic vignette of the Castle of the
Mount, and a flock of sheep.
