Oldest Map on a Stamp

Up Catalog

The oldest map to appear on a stamp is the sixth century Medaba map. It is a mosaic which forms the floor of the chancel of the church in Madaba in what is now Jordan. This sixth century map is pictured on stamps from Argentina, Israel and Jordan. Other early maps on stamps by Claudius Ptolemy and the Peutinger Table are not based on originals but on later reconstructions.
