Council of State
The stamp was issued in
1991 to recognize the four hundred fiftiety anniversary of the Council
of State.
A Map in Marble
The map on the European Council stamp issued
in 1997 by the Netherlands is the eastern hemisphere, inlaid in the
floor in the Burgerzaal, the Citizens’ Hall, in the Koninklijk Paleis,
the Royal Palace (1648-1665) on the Dam Square in Amsterdam. The map
on the marble floor depicts both hemispheres and a map of the sky with
the constellations of the northern sky.
