Bermuda 924

This stamp was issued as a souvenir sheet to commemorate the World Philatelic Exhibition in 2006 in Washington D.C. The stamp features "A New and Accurate Map of the Bermudas or Sommers Islands," published in 1747 by Emanuel Bowen in the first volume of his atlas entitled, A complete system of Geography. At the west end of the island of Bermuda the name of the parish of Sandys is misspelled Sandy's. Sir Edwin Sandys was an early settler in Bermuda and the parish was named for him. The name is properly pronounced “Sands.” See also Bermuda 148 for the same error.
