     The South Pacific Conference has met at 2 or 3 year intervals since 1950. In 1969 the ninth Conference met at Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia and the headquarters of the South Pacific Commission. The Commission had 27 members at that time.
     The stamp issued by the Cook Islands is one of a set of four stamp which all have a map of the area. The picture on the one shown is Captain James Cook. The others have pictures of Premier Albert Henry of New Zealand, the coat of arms of New Zealand, and Queen Elizabeth.
