Several Errors in Drawing

Up Catalog

Guatemala C141

The airmail stamp issued by Guatemala in 1946 with two globular maps of the east and west hemisphere have a number of geographical errors in the drawing of the maps. On the western hemisphere there is a large island in the Gulf of Mexico and a strange island in the s\outh Pacific, the shape of North America is distorted and Hudson's Bay is missing. On the eastern hemisphere Europe appears as an island separated from Asia, the Mediterranean Sea is missing, Africa is disconnected from Asia Minor and Australia is almost as large as Asia.
Although the dates on the stamp might indicate that the stamp was issued in 1940, it was in fact issued in 1946.
