To commemorate the death of the Infante, Don Henrique, in 1460 Angola issued this stamp featuring a portion of the Carta Atlantica painted by Jorge Reinel (ca. 1502-1572), the son of Pedro Reinel, about 1540.
      The main feature of the map is the Fortress of So Jorge da Mina located in what is now Ghana. The map by Reinel can be seen at

     In 1964 the map on this stamp was mistakenly identified as "...adopted from the Cantino Planisphere of 1502..." by M. F. Stern in "Ancient Maps and Explorer's Routes on Stamps," Map Collectors' Series, No. 15, p. 8.
